CIL is a rapidly growing company, and with that growth comes a greater responsibility to the environment and society. As a B Corp certified organisation, we are deeply committed to ensuring that our impact is positive, sustainable, and supportive of the communities where we operate.

Guided by our environmental, social and governance (ESG) team, CIL aims to consider the effect of our business within wider society. We strive to contribute meaningfully to the local community through charitable partnerships, fundraising initiatives, and pro bono work, all while maintaining our dedication to sustainability and social responsibility.

“ESG is about building a sustainable future that benefits everyone – from our employees and clients to our planet and society as a whole. By prioritising ESG, we can create long-term value for our company and make a positive impact on the world.”

Carbon Negative Status

At CIL, we’re committed to making sustainability core to what we do, so we’ve partnered with Seedling to measure, reduce and offset our emissions annually.

We complete a comprehensive carbon footprint across our operations and supply chain, and we’re implementing meaningful emission reduction initiatives to tackle our hotspots.

To maximise our impact, we’re also proud to be Carbon Negative, offsetting 110% of our emissions by investing in initiatives that not only reduce carbon but also make a lasting, positive impact aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

We support a diverse range of renewable projects, including solar, wind, hydropower, bioenergy, and afforestation with the aim of contributing to meaningful environmental and social progress.

The projects we support include:

Biodiverse Forests in Panama

By sourcing timber from primary rainforest or harvesting large-scale monoculture plantation, the timber trade has significantly depleted tropical rainforests.

This project is looking to change that by introducing sustainable timber production while reforesting degraded pastureland with a mix of native tree species and teak. The resulting forests offer a natural habitat for native animals and plants, protect and enrich the soil, save and filter water and contribute to the mitigation of climate change.

To date, more than 7.5 million trees from 20 different native species have been planted – capturing carbon and mitigating climate change. In addition, 25% of the forest has been declared nature reserve, protecting the forest and the animals and plants living there. 15 endangered species have found a permanent habitat.

Ackron Mixed Woodland in Scotland, UK

Akron Mixed is an afforestation project in Scotland, taking a 40 hectare plot of land which was previously used for sheep grazing and planting a mixture of trees to create a mixed native woodland – creating a store for carbon while also providing threatened species like short-eared owls and black grouse.

The project has removed 1,880 tCO2e from the atmosphere since it began back in 2000. As well as being managed and monitored by Treeconomy, it has also been verified by the Woodland Carbon Code, adding an extra layer of trust to the quality.

Charitable initiatives

Chicago Youth Centers
CIL’s Chicago office has provided meal boxes to families in need through Chicago Youth Centers (CYC). CYC is a charity that offers early learning, afterschool, and summer programs, to help children aged between one and 18 years old to find joy in learning, grow socially and build skills for the jobs of tomorrow.

Missing People
Missing People is a charity we have partnered with since 2015. It is a lifeline for the 250,000 children and adults that go missing each year in the UK, and the loved ones that they leave behind.

In addition to ongoing fundraising activities, we use our commercial strategy expertise to conduct vital research for the charity surrounding the underreported experiences of missing adults. We also provide pro bono support to help Missing People explore new avenues for revenue generation, and evaluate its existing activities to ensure the charity sustains its vital services for the long term.

Firefly International
We have a longstanding relationship with the charity Firefly International. Firefly supports locally-led artistic and educational projects in Bosnia and the Middle East that create safe, supportive and inclusive spaces for young people to grow, learn, and thrive. The charity works closely with children and communities in post conflict areas and is one we have supported since 2009.
